In EVERYONES All-Time Point Guards
list there is NO question that Chris Paul makes the cut. Without ever reaching
an NBA Finals CP3 has had himself an outstanding career, being undoubtedly the
best pure point guard of this generation. For his career he averages 18.6ppg
4.5rpg 9.7apg. In the 2017 offseason the Los Angeles Clippers traded Chris Paul
to the Houston Rockets where him and James Harden combined were expected to be
pair of playmaking assassins, and they fulfilled everyone’s expectations. The
Rockets went on to finish with a 65-17 record and 1st in the Western
conference. In game 5 of the western conference finals Paul went down with a
strained hamstring in which he is no stranger to. They went on to lose to the
Golden State Warriors in 7 games without their floor general CP3.
Chris Paul is now 33 years old and has signed
a 160 million max deal to resign with the Houston Rockets that will extend over
the next 4 years. Paul has played 26 out of 46 games this season, he has been
out with what you may ask? You guessed it a strained hamstring; and in the
games he has played he was not himself just averaging 15.6ppg 8.0apg 4.0rpg 41%
FGs and 35% from three. What do you think his stats will be in his 4th
and final year of his contract? It looks like Father Time has caught another
member of the “Banana Boat squad”.
James
Harden will be set to make 229 million until the end of the 2022-23 NBA season
and Chris Paul will make 160 Million until the 2021-22 season. With 90 million
being tied up with Clint Capela over the next 5 years it is truly championship
or bust for this Houston Rockets team. A championship should be in their reach with
the greatest scorer of All-Time on their team in James Harden right? I am not
too sure about that, Although Harden has arguably been an MVP for the last 4
seasons. That may be all he is…A regular season phenomenon. During this 2018-19
season James Harden has shown he is truly unguardable by scoring at least 30
points in 20 consecutive games which is incredible. Unfortunately “The Beard”
goes bald when the playoffs arrive appearing as if he is gassed. Repeatedly
shown he goes missing in action when its time to be clutch.
With
Chris Paul struggling to get back healthy, Harden has put the team on his back
and lead them to a respectable record, But how long can he keep this insane
offensive explosion going? The Western conference is a Battle Royale this year
and the Rockets lack the depth they once had to truly compete. This
Rockets team has a slim window of
opportunity and it is only getting slimmer. Their time is NOW while Chris Paul
can still be productive or else the CP3 x The Beard Era will come to an end
REAL FAST.
